Atotonilco Hot Springs
The indigenous peoples of the this area used these Aguas Termales
for medicinal purposes. This water was considered to be sacred. The
Atotonilco Hot springs are located some 15 miles west of Puerto, near
San Jose Manialtepec village. You will gain the most out of this journey
if you go with a local guide. Along the way the guide will point out
unique flora and fauna. Also on the way to the hot springs you can
swim in the ponzas of the nearby waterfall. The guide will take you
on a two mile hike or horse-back ride up the Manialtepec canyon to
the hot springs.

During
your tour the guide will explain about the sixteen different races
of people that inhabited the State of Oaxaca, and the culture of the
Chatinos, who practiced medicinal baths in these springs. The springs
will rejuvenate you and make you undoubtedly feel much younger on
your return voyage from the Aguas Termales Atotonilco. Round trip
is about six hours, food and horses are included.
