Cascada de la Reforma
In
the municpal of San Pedro Mixtepec, the Rio Chiquito, formed by a series
of natural draining's that flow from the Mountain range costeña,
forming a beautiful waterfall approximately 60 meters tall called La
Reforma. The area is quite impressive, surrounded by a natural rock
wall, as well as a series of pozas (ponds) which have been formed by
the passage of water. The trail towards the cascade is very pleasant.
The nature of the area is intensely alive, one can easily understand
why this area was once very sacred.
How
to get there:
Drive up Oaxaca ave. as far as it goes, about 15 min up the
same road until you are in the foot hills. You will eventually find
a sign, on the right side of the road next to a restaurant. Take the
dirt road for 15 km, ask your for guidance. Take a truck because you
cross the river twice, it may be too hard in the rainy season to make
this drive.
Tours:
It is well worth it to go with a local guide to la Reforma. You will
be guided by a San Pedro local Sr. Albino Lara Gijón, who has
spent his whole life in this area. As you walk to la Reforma you will
be told of the Mixtecas, and there contribution to the area.
